She’s like a wild flower,
The color yellow,
Christmas morning. She’s like the first snowfall of the season,
Hearing your favorite song on the radio,
Finishing a todo list. She like a sunrise on the east coast,
A warm brownie,
And a cannonball on a hot summer day. She is the kick after eating something spicy,
A double rainbow,
Or watching your favorite series after a tough day. And she’s seven.
Smart and sassy and kind and there’s something poetic about her being born on NYE. Her sixth year brought a ridiculous amount of growth and grace and a deep love that I never experienced before in my life, so there are no words to describe how excited I am for her seventh year. Fostering through the holidays is a whole bag of worms. On one hand, it’s so stinking hard. The littlest things can trigger the trauma of your child’s life to come out in behaviors. On the other, the gospel begins to become ridiculously clear. The complete understanding makes you believe like a child again. I was telling someone today about how Christmas works in our house and they responded with how I seemed much calmer about what gifts come in my home than they think they would be in our situation. I thought about it for a while which lead me to really think that this isn’t about me or even my home aesthetic, this is about the gospel. This is way bigger than a gift, this is about a relationship filled with grace and love. Also, I’m not in a situation and bio parents get a really bad rep. This is about two sets of parents making the best out of coparenting because let me tell ya, there are a lot bigger fish to fry. This room. Man, do I have a love-hate for it.

This room. Man, do I have a love-hate for it. I hate that it’s a part of my story.
I hate that I have to spend so much time here.
I hate the anxiety it gives me sitting in it.
I hate the deep pain I feel every single time I have to come back with no fun news.
I hate how lonely I feel in it.
I hate thinking about how many women and men walk through those doors with the same pain.
I hate the amount of times I have questioned God in it because lemme tell ya, izzzz a lot. But then there is this other side of it... I love how it reminds me how not in control I am.
I love how this room forces me to talk to God.
I love how it forces me to listen.
I love that the more I question, the more I find myself trusting.
I love that what this waiting room represent. Waiting is the worst. Ammiright? Like Dear God, where ya at? Infertility sucks y’all. The waiting sucks. Not trusting that God knows really belittles him, and who am i to do that. I mean nobody wants to endure the rain, but let’s not forget, without rain would be no rainbow. I’m finding peace in the fact that God knows. He knows why I need to hang tight in the rain for a second. He knows what’s coming is better than I could imagine. Man, the fact that he is whispering “you just wait” because he truly has this all worked out for the good is mind boggling to me. Whatever he has up his sleeve, whatever rainbow he has planed for my life, I’m so here for it. So cheers to the waiting y’all, my rainbow is coming. #meetthefishpaws #nolabelsjustfamily #iui

One things I’ve learned in my role of being a pa

One things I’ve learned in my role of being a parent is that you have to trust yourself. I have found that the more I pause to feel what I need to feel and using those intuitions to navigate my decisions, that I got this. Parenting can be hard. Like really really hard. People will have opinions in every thing.
What to feed your kids,
How much screen time they should have,
How many extra activities they should be in,
How to discipline,
Where to buy their clothes,
What products to use for them,
Literally everything.
And they will judge you hard. But the thing is, they don’t know. They don’t know the details or the behind the scenes. They don’t know the trauma and how that effects them. They don’t know their personalities like you do. So that intuition? Mama, that’s your superpower. Did you know..... Did you know that 6% of children find themselves in foster care before they are 18? Did you know that in comparison to veterans, former foster youth are twice as likely to suffer From post-traumatic stress disorder? Did you know that roughly 30,000 youth age out of the foster care system between the ages of 18-21 annually? Did you know that one out of every five people who age out of the foster care system lack a home when they turn 18? Did you know that by the time foster youth are 25, 50% will develop a substance abuse problem? Did you know that only 51% of all foster youth graduate high school, while only 4% of former foster youth will receive a bachelors before they are 26? Did you know that right now l there are over 100k in the United States that are freed for adoption? Did you know that within four years of aging out, 50% have no earnings, and those who do make an average annual income of $7,500? I could go on.
This isn’t a way to make money.
This isn’t a means to bandaid over infertility.
This isn’t about me.
This is about petitioning on the behalf of these children’s future. These kids need people to fight for them.
These kids need people to get too attached.
These kids need someone who is willing to endure loss for them.
These kids need people to be willing to go to battle for a permanent plan for them (adoption or reunification).
These kids need hope. To all the women out there who have been told they are too emotional, To all the women out there who feel like a walking contradiction, To all the women out there who have been told they are too much, I hope you are.
I hope to have too many goals.
I hope you have too many ideas.
I hope you have too much work ethic.
I hope you have too much of a vision. You are allowed to be beautiful and intelligent, confident and humble, and strong and soft. You’re allowed to like football and also cry during your favorite show. You’re allowed to be so you and be so loved.
